ACTI Propane Heater & Torch Safety Training Program
π Program Overview:
The ACTI Propane Heater & Torch Safety Training Program provides essential training for workers operating propane-powered construction heaters and hand-held torches. The program meets all relevant CSA, OH&S, and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) standards, ensuring worker safety and regulatory compliance across Canada.
This course covers the safe handling, installation, inspection, operation, and emergency procedures related to propane cylinders, torches, and construction heaters. Participants will be able to recognize hazardous conditions, respond to incidents, and prevent propane-related injuries or property damage on active worksites.
π Key Learning Modules:
- Lesson 1 β Propane & Safety Fundamentals: Properties of propane, flammability, odour recognition, first aid, protective clothing, carbon monoxide awareness, and fire prevention practices.
- Lesson 2 β Cylinders & Storage: Cylinder types and components, inspection and requalification, handling and transport, tank systems, storage regulations, and safe indoor/outdoor use requirements.
- Lesson 3 β Heater Operation: Setup and operation of direct-fired, indirect-fired, and infrared heaters; installation requirements; safety controls based on BTUH ratings; inspection procedures; and emergency shutdown protocols.
- Lesson 4 β Hand-Held Torches: Connecting propane supplies, lighting procedures, safe operation, flame safeguard features, and troubleshooting torch malfunctions.

β Upon Completion:
- β Recognize and mitigate propane hazards on job sites.
- β Safely install and operate construction heaters and torches.
- β Conduct leak detection and proper emergency response.
- β Handle propane cylinders safely and legally per CSA & provincial codes.
- β Identify unacceptable conditions and follow incident reporting procedures.
- β Pass both written and practical evaluations to demonstrate competence.
Participants who complete the training will receive the ACTI Propane Heater & Torch Safety Certification, recognized across Canada and valid for work involving propane-powered construction heating systems and tools.
